Quiet day in the office today. Some work was done on scheduling for next season. We have a couple of dates left to fill. We have some good home and road match-ups for our loyal fan base to enjoy. The up coming season is one of great unknowns but also one of excitement. The unknown can be nerve racking, but at the same time rewarding, as you see young men grow up right before your eyes.
Our strength coach and I had a great conversation today regarding this same issue. Coach Carr is jacked up to get the new guys to campus. I have never been around a guy like him before. His outlook on manners and the way he treats everyday is truly remarkable. He never has a bad day, NEVER! Now he can be a hard ass, but he will be the first one to call you if he senses you need extra help. True friends are hard to come by in today's cut throat society. He is one of my guys. One of the guys I lean on for advice. Everybody needs one of these people. Not someone in your family, but someone on the outside who you trust and can put you in your place when need be, Coach Carr is that guy. Never mind the fact that he about killed myself and Coach Havens in the weight room. He was treating us like the players, Coach Carr I am not a player. I am retired. I like my arms and I like to feel them, not just notice they are there.
How about the deal at Lindenwood in St. Charles. Brad Sodeberg is rumored to have signed a 6 year, $100K deal. Nice work by you Coach Sodeberg, but do you really want to bring in 100 kids. What a joke of a school. Kids are going there because they get basketball money, maybe a $1,000 and become a career JV college basketball player. Now there is nothing wrong with JV, as I started there, but I knew Coach Worrell put me there for a reason. He cared about my development as a player, I was not just a number. Lets be perfectly honest anyone beyond number 20 on the depth chart will not be seeing the court anytime soon. I feel sorry for these kids and their parents. Coach Sodeberg is telling kids to come to Lindenwood to get his number, not because the kid is a good player. This is the universities fault, not on the coach, he is just doing his job. What a joke the NAIA schools are. I would recommend every kid go to a private liberal arts institution. One where the entire school cares about you as a person, not as simply a number who helps fund the school.
Biggest Loser
Anyone watch this show? A great show, with lessons to be learned. They ran a marathon. Running 26.2 miles at one time is amazing.
Senior Skip Day
With graduation nearing this topic always comes up, should seniors skip a day of school? My answer is YES, they all should. I did, my friends did, everyone should. Don't ask your parents for permission, just do it. If they ask just tell them. I learned when I was a young buck, just tell your parents the truth, they will find out. Parents have way more friends than you do, DO NOT LIE. With that being said every senior should skip a day of school. Coach Duds said it was OK, just do it.
Quote of the day
"If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember the story."
Big series tonight with my Cubbies vs. the Fighting LaRussa's. Just win the series boys. Imagine that Chris Carpenter is making his 87th comeback of his career. Seriously Carp and Dave Duncan where are you growing this stuff. Dude has to be drinking the Manny Juice.
Lake Show and Thug-etts start tonight as well. Keep your eyes on Adam Morrison, the wardrobe will determine who wins.
Last thing, if anyone has seen any of Chester Reeder's hair please let me know.
I am out
